USPS Public Comment

The right to vote is under attack once again.

The Trump Administration is attempting to transform the U.S. Postal Service from a neutral mail carrier into an active gatekeeper of our elections. Through a proposed USPS rule, the Administration would give the Postal Service unprecedented authority to determine whether eligible voters receive their mail ballots based on new federal verification requirements. AAAFund believes this proposal represents a dangerous federal overreach that threatens voting access and undermines the longstanding role of states in administering elections. (Federal Register)

This proposal is especially concerning for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Nearly half of AAPI voters cast their ballots by mail or secure drop box in the last presidential election, and many voters rely on vote-by-mail to access language assistance, accommodate work schedules, care for family members, or safely participate in our democracy. Policies that create new barriers to mail voting will disproportionately impact our communities.

AAAFund believes no presidential administration—Republican or Democratic—should have the ability to politicize the Postal Service or insert it into decisions about which eligible Americans receive mail ballots. Elections belong to the people, not to Washington bureaucrats.

Official USPS Proposed Rule – Ballot Mail for Federal Elections

Every public comment and every call to Congress sends a clear message that Americans expect free, fair, and accessible elections—not new barriers to the ballot box.

"The Postal Service exists to deliver the mail—not to determine who receives a ballot. Every eligible American deserves an equal opportunity to participate in our democracy, and no administration should be allowed to politicize that fundamental right. I encourage every member of our community to speak out to prevent this rule from becoming policy."
