AAAFund Condemns Dangerous Anti-Asian Fearmongering in Political Campaign Advertising
The Asian American Action Fund (AAAFund) strongly condemns the continued use of anti-China fearmongering, racial scapegoating, and inflammatory political advertising that puts Chinese Americans, South Asian Americans, and the broader Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community at risk.
As the 2026 midterm elections enter the final days, we are deeply troubled by political advertisements from both Republican and Democratic-aligned organizations that exploit fears about China, immigration, and foreign influence for political gain. Such messaging reinforces dangerous stereotypes, fuels racial suspicion, and contributes to an environment of discrimination, harassment, and violence against Asian Americans.
Chinese Americans are not the Chinese Communist Party. No Asian American should have to prove their loyalty or patriotism because of their ethnicity or ancestry.
Recent anti-South Asian hostility, including attacks targeting Indian Americans and other South Asian communities, reminds us that racial scapegoating does not stop with one ethnic group and must be denounced. We witnessed the devastating consequences of anti-Asian rhetoric during the COVID-19 pandemic, when innocent Americans became targets of hate and violence. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.
"Political ads may last only 30 seconds, but the fear and hatred they fuel can scar communities for generations," said Albert Shen, National Chair of AAAFund. "Asian Americans should never become collateral damage for political gain. We expect better from both parties, especially those who champion civil rights and equality."
AAAFund recognizes the importance of legitimate debate over national security, foreign interference, trade, and immigration. However, there is a profound difference between holding foreign governments accountable and weaponizing race or national origin for electoral advantage.
We call on both political parties, congressional campaign committees, super PACs, and political consultants to reject racially charged campaign messaging and engage AANHPI community leaders before releasing advertisements that could perpetuate harmful stereotypes.
AAAFund urges fellow AANHPI organizations, civil rights advocates, and community leaders to stand together in demanding responsible political advertising that protects the dignity, safety, and belonging of all Americans.
Challenge foreign governments. Debate national security. But stop turning Asian Americans into political targets.
No election victory is worth putting American families and communities at risk.
