Chu, Eng, Lieu, and Furutani Join Honorary Board

Washington DC, May 27, 2008 — California Board of Equalization Chair Judy Chu and State Assembly members Mike Eng, Ted Lieu, and Warren Furutani have joined the AAA-Fund's Honorary board.

"These four accomplished individuals bring to the board strong political experience as well as experience in substantive areas, including fiscal policy, government ethics, hate crimes, and education reform. We are honored to be able to call on their services during this important election year," said AAA-Fund Executive Director Gautam Dutta.

In January of this year, Chu was unanimously elected to serve as Chair of California's Board of Equalization, the only publicly elected state tax commission in the nation. She was elected to the board in November 2006 and prior to that served as mayor of Monterey Park and as a State Assembly member.

Eng was elected to the State Assembly in November 2006 and represents the 49th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Alhambra, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, and South El Monte in eastern Los Angeles County. Eng chairs the Assembly's Business and Professions Committee and Select Committee on Hate Crimes.

Lieu has been a member of the Assembly since 2005, representing a district (53rd) that includes El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Venice, Westchester and parts of West Los Angeles. He chairs the Assembly's Rules Committee and Select Committee on Aerospace. He is also a major in the United States Air Force Reserves and served four years of active duty in the JAG Corps.

Furutani won a February 5 runoff election to fill the vacant seat for the 55th Assembly District, which includes sections of Los Angeles (Wilmington, Harbor City, and the Harbor Gateway), Carson, and parts of Long Beach and Lakewood. Furutani is a leader in education, having served as president of both the Los Angeles Community College Board and the Los Angeles Board of Education.

The AAA-Fund is a national Democratic political organization whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in local, state and federal government, by encouraging AAPIs to volunteer on campaigns, raise money for candidates, and run for political office.
