Washington, D.C. November 8 was a banner day for AAA-Fund's 2005 endorsed candidates. Two candidates won, one advanced to a run-off in December, and one did extremely well in a tough race in a GOP-leaning district. Congratulations also are in order for fellow Asian American Democrats such as Mayor-elect Jun Choi of Edison, New Jersey.
Sam Yoon
AAA-Fund endorsements, fundraising, publicity, and GOTV efforts helped Sam Yoon to become the first Asian American member of the Boston City Council on November 8th. AAA-Fund National Board Member Nasim Memon, who lives in Boston, added, "I also think he won because of the Team Unity alliance that he had with Felix Arroyo, Chuck Turner, and Charles Yancey. This helped him in his election. Also the turnout of the Asian American, African American and Latinos voters is making a difference in the political scene in Boston, just like it did in Andrea Cabrell's win for Sheriff last year." candidate website | news article
Tim Kaine
AAA-Fund also endorsed, raised funds for, and provided GOTV assistance to Tim Kaine, who won the Virginia gubernatorial election by a 52-46 margin, with 2 points going to an independent candidate. candidate website | news article

Supriya Christopher
Supriya Christopher's historic bid to become Virginia's first Asian American Delegate came up short on November 8th, but she ran a strong race with the help of the AAA-Fund and other supporters in her district and nationwide. Gautam Dutta, a Board Member of the AAA-Fund who led their efforts to support Christopher and Kaine in Virginia, said, "The AAA-Fund commends Supriya Christopher for running an outstanding campaign. In a heavily Republican district, Ms. Christopher garnered an impressive 45% of the vote. As one of Virginia's most prominent Asian American and Indian American leaders, Ms. Christopher has a bright future ahead of her and enjoys a close working relationship with Virginia Governor Mark Warner and Governor-Elect Tim Kaine. The AAA-Fund looks forward to working with her in her future endeavors." news article
Jun Choi
Congratulations also are in order for fellow Asian American Democrat Jun Choi, who won his bid to become mayor of Edison Township, New Jersey on Noivember 8th. Running as a reformer, the 34-year-old earlier won a Democratic primary and then held off a challenge from a Democrat running as an Independent, winning by 272 votes. Choi becomes the 20th Asian American mayor in the U.S., and third in N.J. (after Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh of West Windsor and former mayor of Franklin Township and current Assembly Member Upendra Chivukula). Racial remarks made by radio talk-show hosts during the campaign had led to monitoring of the election by Justice Department observers. candidate website | news article
